Is this game from Paul and Fred? Where have you guys been all this time?

Wow, the years did fly by. Over our long careers, we made games under Accolade, Crystal Dynamics, and eventually Activision. We finished and released a new game every two years, became studio heads for over a hundred employees, and raised our families. We also got personally sued (not as fun as it sounds), and became grandparents (even more amazing than it sounds).

We left Activision in 2020. Fred, Paul, Dan, and Ken got together in 2021, and we founded Pistol Shrimp. For the first time, we could make any game we wanted to make, the way we wanted to make it.

We organized the new studio. Fred and Ken built our engine and tools. Paul poured his imagination into the story. Dan re-implemented all the features from UQM, and even prototyped a few more. The game is now ready for more game assets and art, and that’s where crowdfunding will help.

What will happen to <INSERT ALIEN> from The Ur-Quan Masters?

Some aliens will be essential to your next mission, others will slip into the background, and a dozen new alien cultures will meet their first Earthling. (That’s you!)

What's "Simple"? Why make your own engine?

Simple is Fred Ford’s system for creating multiplayer gameplay, which we then integrate with other tools like Godot for graphics. Making tools that work the way we want was a key to our past success at Toys for Bob. They help us make games that play the way we want them to play, and we can even provide them to you without any restrictions. We’ve talked about the importance of owning what we make, here:

What's in the game?

We said it best in the Kickstarter page above, but here’s a quick recap:

• Adventure mode featuring an epic story with over a dozen unique aliens. Playable alone or with friends, cooperatively.

• One-on-one starship battles in classic Super Melee, plus new modes and scenarios. Playable alone, with friends, or against AI opponents.

• Available for Windows on Steam, with serverless online technology for matchmaking. No online connection required to play.

• Keyboard and controller support.

• No nonsense technology, and nothing fancy required to run the game.

• Accessibility options for different humans.

… and more if we can reach our stretch goals!

For the physical rewards, what will be the cost of shipping?

Shipping prices are not included in the pledge tiers. These days, the logistics of shipping can be unpredictable, especially internationally. To get the most accurate price for shipping and taxes, we’ll be using BackerKit to manage fulfillment, and will charge shipping after the Kickstarter ends. All physical rewards can fit in a large envelope, and we promise to do our best to keep the overall cost down.

But will this actually be worth the wait?

Come see for yourself by watching our live streams at https://twitch.tv/pebby or joining our Discord at https://discord.gg/rasVCDmYKp

We’re having fun. We hope you will too.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
